Assistant Manager, with attitude

I went into the PNP clothing store in Midrand today to return some items and requested them to give me a voucher instead as I misplaced my receipt. I was informed by a very rude, unhappy and miserable cashier that the policy has changed and they do not return items or give u a voucher without the receipt. (I think i interupted her afternoon siesta) Was told basically, u either keep what u have or u take something else (nothing that I really wanted...but forced to buy cause their policy has changed). After the two cashiers had their conversation/discussion in their own langauge regarding this issue, I was told they calling the Manager.....then came the Assistant Manager .... Motlatjo Mathekga ...squared her shoulders and tilted her head back ready to do battle. Motlatjo rudely told me to go back to the branch I purchased it from because their systems are not linked and she does not have their number to call them ?!? (really?) At the end of this encounter...i exchanged clothes i didnt want and a balance was then transfered to a gift card, which they no longer use, because there was nothing else I wanted to exchange for R43. The receipt for this exchange, I was told, i had no right to beacuse I didnt have one when I came in so they dont have to give me another one. According to Consumer Protection Act, Consumers are entitled to invoices and receipts - and the Consumers right to return goods??
