APPALLING SERVICE

On 6th May 2016 I purchased a pair of Grey “LDS Chelsea Boots” from PicknPay, Liberty Mall, Pietermaritzburg for R199.00.

On August 11th 2016 the heel of the left boot collapsed and fell off and I notice on closer inspection that the entire structure of the heel is clearly of very poor quality and obviously not fit for purpose. The right boot heel has also started collapsing and would shortly go the same way in probably the next use.

Being totally disgruntled with this product I returned to PicknPay, Liberty Mall, Pietermaritzburg today - 17th August 2016 - to request a refund. (This was the soonest I was able to get to PicknPay, Liberty Mall, Pietermaritzburg as I work on the other side of Pietermaritzburg.) I explained to the Manageress that these boots were merely 3 months old and were by no means worn every day and that I was appalled at the condition of these boots. (Please note: I do have other shoes/boots in my cupboard so do not need to wear these boots everyday.)

I was told by the Manageress at PicknPay, Liberty Mall, Pietermaritzburg that refunds are only given on products up to 2 weeks after purchase. I challenged the Manageress and asked her if paying R199.00 for a pair of boots that only last 3 months is a reasonable life for a pair boots. I was given a complete no refund response upon this challenge. I also mentioned to this Manageress that according to the Consumer Protection Act a Consumer has the right to return defective goods within 6 months of purchase. The response from Management was they would phone “higher up”. The Manageress called someone in Consumer Care PicknPay, in my presence, but would NOT allow me to speak to the person on the other end of the phone. The answer was again – no refund.

Pick'nPay, Liberty Mall, Pietermaritzburg asked me to leave my name and number and said they would see what they could do. I have my doubts.

The fact remains that Boots that cost R199.00 literally lasted probably no more than 10 wears – APPALLING!!!!

Best regards,
Thank you for your quick response. I have now been contacted by Customer Care at Pick n Pay, Pietermaritzburg and they have agreed to refund me the full amount.
What a pity it had to be a camel ride and an inconvenience as I am not sure when I will get to that side of town as I work full time and rarely go that side of Pietermaritzburg
