Appalling customer service

I went to Pick' n pay(Brackenfell) to buy some stuff including 6 drum sticks. I then approached a Xhosa speaking lady, Wendy-at the bakery-whom i ordered 6 drumsticks from. Because she was a xhosa speaking lady, i then made my order in Xhosa thinking she would understand referring to drum sticks as "amabhora". She then amazingly stared at me without saying anything as if i was speaking in some foreign language, her body language was not pleasant at all as she had attitude from the get go. Wendy then rep**** to me saying "do you want me to now guess what is it that you're referring to" but she said it in Xhosa and with a very disgusting attitude. I then asked her if she didnt know what 'amabhora' was, she then shook her head.

I then calmly walked away from where she was-bakery- to go and get some other stuff. I went back again to her but she was then serving another customer who was an african lady as well. I then also asked her if she knew what "amabhora" was then she said no. A coloured lady offered to assist as i was also speaking to Wendy asking her why couldnt she just say she never knew what i was referring toand asked me to explain.instead, Wendy kept on giving me this disgusting attitude showing no interest in what i was saying. She then rep**** to me saying" they dont sell amabhora they sell drumsticks. Why didnt i ask her in English". I stood there in shock, bedazzled as to how could an employee treat a customer like this especially infront of other people i never knew.

I then requested her to call the incharge, she called a lady by the name of Lauryn if im not mistaken who is the supervisor at the bakery section. I explained to her the traumatic experience that i just encountered and she just said "okay" with no reassurance that this matter will be delt with. I then said that i would come back after coming from the gym and speak to the manager because she was helpfull and didnt seem interested.

After an hour and thirty minutes, i came back and asked to speak to the store manager Laurette who referred me to Frank, i explained my story to him and then he said he will deal with it, however there was a third lady who i cant remember her name who adviced Frank to call Wendy in so she can apologies to the me so he did so.

As she was walking towards the office you could see that she wasnt interested at all and she was dragging her feet as if she was showing off to the other employees. I also went into the room where Wendy told her untruthful side of the story and was even giving her own manager attitude showing no remorse and even raising her voice at me. As much as part of her story wasnt the truth i then asked her if she did quote the statement "do you want me to now guess what is it that you're referring to" asking her to give me a yes or no answer. Wendy could now give me a straight answer, however on her verbal statement that she told to the manager she did mention that she had said that even though when i asked her in a different context she tried denying it.

The reason why i am writing this is not because she never knew what "amabhora" referring to drumsticks was, it is what she said to me in isiXhosa which doesnt have the same effect when being directly translated in English. I shop at that Pick 'n Pay almost everyday and i have never ever experienced such behaviour from any of the employees who are always friendly. Even though she was called in to apologies we did not get to that part because she did not feel she did anything wrong hence even her manager was astonished by her behaviour and embarrassed as to how she could not show any remorse and still have attitude infront of me while her manager was present.

Even my sixteen year old cousin had to intervene telling her that her attitude wouldnt take her far in life if she doesnt change it.

Yolanda.

********** 892

<span style="color: #555555; background-color: **********
