Another typical day at Pick 'n Pay West Coast Village

Pick 'n Pay, what do I say, I had the misfortune of attempting to shop at their West Coast Village store in Cape Town on Tuesday the 27th of April, a public holiday. Normally I avoid them at all costs, as this store in particular is well known in the area for having rude staff, poorly stocked shelves, and only a 2 or 3 tills open even at peak hours. I arrived at the door of the store at 18:07, both the doors were closed with the security guard sitting on a chair between them on the inside with his back to people trying to enter. His back just so happened to be leaning against the trading hours sign in the window, which clearly stated that trading hours on a public holiday were until 20:00. Once he saw me peering in, he slid the door open a crack and rudely said 'CLOSED, ITS A HOLIDAY', as I pointed to the sign to ask about the discrepancy he said 'ITS OLD', and slammed the two doors together. There were another two potential customers who approached the store, at which time he angrily waved them away and turned his back to the entrance once more. This is not a way to treat customers or anyone for that matter. As a former employee of this company many years back I remember how important customer service used to be. None of that ethos seems to exist any longer. This is not the first time this sort of thing has happened, there are people who work in the center, but choose to shop elsewhere after work due to the poor service. This store consistently rates as one of the poorest shopping experiences you can have, and this time I think will have been the final time for me.
