Actively advertising promotion for an unavailable item.

Today I stopped in at Pick n Pay Rand Ridge Mall just before lunchtime (about 11:30) to buy pies for lunch and noted the following:

1) Not a single vegetarian pie. No spinach and feta. No veg curry. Very disappointing, Pick n Pay. 2) So, as a substitute I inquired about the cheese puffs they had advertised on a freestanding A4 leaflet holder which was standing on the counter. When I asked for a half dozen of the advertised item, I was told they had none.

Now tell me, surely if someone had gone to the trouble of placing the freestanding promotional item on the counter, it would be after checking that they advertised item is actually available to sell!? Why advertise something that is not available!?

When I suggested they put the sign away as more customers will be inquiring about this promotion which they have no stock of, this was met with indifference and reluctance to follow through, as if having the sign for the unavailable cheese puffs would somehow magic them into existence!

Poor show, Pick n Pay. Now I know why I seldom shop at Pick n Pay. I am so often disappointed and leave hungry instead of satisfied with a lunch.
