A stessful experience

On Thursday 20 August 2026 at about 5.45pm at Pick n Pay Northcliff Square, my boyfriend paid for his half of the groceries and as I started to pay my half , the bank POS froze and nothing that was done could bring it back. Now what to do? We paid cash for my half but that was still not good enough. The manager didnt believe that my boyfriend's payment went through, even though it said reserved on my boyfriend's banking app. The Manager's solution was to keep us in the shop until the payment reflected as a final payment. This can take days sometimes. He wanted to make the stores' problem our problem! He is clearly not trained to think out of the box. We have been going to this specific store for 15 years and we have seen the said manager at least 50 times. I said that waiting for 45 minutes longer in the store was now enough and I made the suggestion that he could take our name and number especially since he knew us from recognising us. If the payment had failed we would come to the store immediately to pay the R1000. Every time I opened my mouth, he spoke to me in a very condescending tone as if I were a child. I take extreme offence as a feminist and as a woman, that a man can speak to me in such a manner. I enjoy finding solutions to problems and I was the only one who made a sensible suggestion. I feel he needs training on how to treat customers with more respect, on how to listen to others ,on how to receive suggestions and to weigh them up; and he needs to be trained to find a solution when something unfami**** happens in the store. He cannot hold a customer hostage as he did. If I hadn't just walked out the store with the goods that we had paid for with our hard earned cash, we would still be standing there. He perceived that me acting as an adult and making my own decision as to what was reasonable as complete and utter defiance. I feel that he started to get a bit too aggressive in his tone and his choice of words. I started to feel very overwhelmed and anxious and I felt he was accusing me of someting I didn't do.
