Shocking Water

Queried high ELECTRICITY bill, they sent me photos of the meter but it was for a WATER meter. They are reading water consumption and charging it as electricity. How water boiler on roof water consumption converted with some arbitrary number into electricity consumption based on assumptions, instead of being honest and using the actual electricity consumed by the boiler. Communicated with Operations manager no reply to my comments. If you stay in a flat or complex double check your readings and make sure you know what you are being charged for.

 Good day  Edgar Gregan,

We sincerely apologize for the delayed response.

The formula used to calculate the hot water is determined and mandated by our client.  The formula to determine the cost to heat up 1 000 liters of water was received from their electrical engineer at the time.

According to the engineer, it takes 58.33 kWh to heat up 1 000 liters of water from 10 to 60 degrees.  Actual readings are taken every month with supporting photos.  The usage multip**** by the determined tariff calculates the hot water cost.  The West Block is not fitted with geysers and has a centralized hot water system on the roof. This is evidently hot water used inside each unit. In other words, if you were to have a geyser, your electricity reading and account would have been much higher.  Please let me know if there is anything else that I can assist with.

 Kind Regards
Customer Service Department.

This is the same reply I received from the operations manager, I rep**** to this to which he has not had the courtesy to reply to me.
" According to the engineer, it takes 58.33 kWh to heat up 1 000 liters of water from 10 to 60 degrees." based on what scientific evidence, where is his proof?
"Actual readings are taken every month with supporting photos" Yes HOWEVER they are recording m3 on my account as kWh. Perhaps somebody at PEC should tell ESKOM how to convert water to electricity.
It is very simple but a electricity meter on the boiler and stop playing games with assumed figures
Please also forward my complaint to a senior manager.

Nothing from the operations manager despite for requesting somebody more senior.

I have just received the new account water is STILL being billed as electricity - unbelievable.

How does 3.38 kilo liters of water become 3.38 kWh of electricity?

I am now seriously considering legal advice on this matter.

Dear Mr. Gregan  Thank you for your email.  We have changed the measuring unit for your hot water from kWh to kL, with said change to reflect on your next invoice.  Furthermore, the formula used to determine the cost of the hot water used is as per mandate from our client.  We will address your concern with the Body Corporate and revert soonest.

Should you have any further queries, please feel free to email us at ***.

Kind regards, Customer Service Department.
