Refusing approval - because i am a white male
Paystack has an online onboarding approval process (ID, bank statement, proof of residence, etc. — all extremely sensitive information) which I passed 100%. However, instead of approving me, their staff personally overrode the automated approval and refused to complete it.
Instead, they sent me an email buried among the rest of their unsolicited spam — emails I never agreed to receive. By pure chance I saw it. In that email, they suddenly demanded a website in order to approve my account, claiming it was part of their onboarding process.
If it is part of onboarding, why is it NOT in the actual online onboarding system? This is clearly a blatant lie and the most ridiculous requirement I have ever seen. You are a financial service — my website is none of your business.
They have already seen my ID and know that I am a white male, and based on my experience, they are now acting in a ****** and discriminatory manner — dodging and deflecting the approval process for that reason, even after I supp**** this pointless information twice.
We have carefully reviewed the communication between you and our team, and there is no indication that your race or gender influenced the outcome of your application in any way. Compliance requests were based solely on business information still outstanding at the time of review.
To clarify, a functional website (or equivalent online product presence) is a mandatory compliance requirement for businesses collecting payments online. Our regulators require us to verify what you are selling, how customers can access it and what policies protect them (such as refunds, delivery, and dispute.
We are committed to offering a fair, inclusive experience to every business owner who applies to use Paystack, and it saddens us that you feel otherwise. Please feel free to reach out to us at *** should you need further clarification.
Best regards,
