I am writing this with a heavy heart, deeply disappointed and hurt by the care my premature baby received under Dr. Hitesh Diar's supervision. As parents, we entrusted our baby's fragile life to your specialized ICU, expecting the highest level of expertise, compassion, and professionalism. Sadly, our experience fell far short of these expectations.

One of the most troubling aspects was that no consent was sought before performing critical procedures, including the insertion of a PICC line. This wasn’t just a breakdown in communication—it felt like a violation of trust and a disregard for our rights as parents. Adding to our distress was the pressure put on our baby to consume 50ml of milk within 15 minutes as a precondition for discharge. This unreasonable and harmful demand felt especially cruel given her premature condition.

There were many other instances that left us unsettled. On one occasion, our baby was left out of the incubator for two hours—an action that felt not only careless but dangerous. Limiting kangaroo care, an essential bonding practice for both baby and parents, to just one hour showed a lack of compassion and understanding of its importance.

Throughout this ordeal, Dr. Diar was frequently unavailable, leaving us desperate for updates on our baby’s condition, which we often had to actively seek out ourselves. In a critical care setting like this, timely and compassionate communication is not just helpful—it’s essential. We felt helpless and alone when we most needed reassurance.

The nursing staff added to our distress. Their rude, abrupt, and uncaring behavior made an already difficult situation unbearable. It’s heartbreaking to think that in a place meant to care for the most vulnerable, we were met with such hostility and incompetence. Nurses were completely clueless everytime they changed shifts and we the parents, had to update them

It's deeply troubling to say, but it appears the hospital may be unnecessarily keeping babies in care, citing the inability to finish their milk within a specific time frame. Many babies in high care seem to be there for this reason alone. Expecting a premature baby to finish feeding within 15-20 minutes feels entirely unnatural and wrong. Forcing the rest of the feed through a tube simply because the nurses lack the patience to take their time is deeply concerning.

Inconsistent feeding protocols—underfeeding our baby at first and then overfeeding her—along with leaving unnecessary IV lines in place only compounded our worries. These were not minor oversights but issues that put our baby at risk.

The ICU should be a place of hope, where parents can trust that their baby is receiving the best possible care. Instead, we were left feeling anxious, uninformed, and deeply let down. Our experience has been one of fear, frustration, and disappointment at a time when we needed support, compassion, and competent care the most.

It reached a point where we had to make the difficult decision to take our baby out of the ICU and arrange our own discharge. With God’s grace, she is now thriving at home, and we know this was the best decision we could have made. Apologies from Dr. Diar and the nurses were offered after we decided to take our discharge, but by then, it was already too late.

If you have a premature baby in the care of Parklane’s ICU, be prepared for the worst experience possible.
