Absolutely Horrified

Well the food was very good, let me say that first off. We went this past Thursday (29 June 2017) for the all you can eat special. There were four of us, one being my six year old daughter and all had the special. At the end of the evening when we were all finished, my daugher had three half eaten slices on her plate, I had two untouched slices and my mother had another untouched slice. I asked the waiter what happens to the left-overs as we (understandably) cannot take it home. He told me IT IS GOING STRAIGHT INTO THE BIN, right now. I was absolutely speechless. I asked is that what happens to all the leftovers??? He said yes, and the Spur (as Panarottis as an affiliate of Spur) does the same.

There are HUNDREDS of starving people outside and two of the biggest food franchises in South Africa LITERALLY throws food away??!! I asked the waiter are you not allowed to take it to the homeless people if you have a manager with you? He said no, it has to be thrown away.

I feel this is absolutely disgusting, there MUST be some way this food can be distributed to the homeless.

Good day Bronwyn.
Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns with us and we understand your frustration. I have spoken to area manager who confirmed that the explanation that the waitron provided was not entirely correct. For hygienic and health purposes any left over food that has been eaten on is discarded and food that has not been touched or eaten is usually given to the staff at the end of the shift. The staff can then choose to keep it for themselves or distribute in their community.
As a brand we try to limit the amount of food that land up in waste and we take pride in being part of feeding schemes, and even have a non profit foundation which focuses on feeding and educating communities.
We would like to apologise for the incorrect communication and will certainly also take this up with the store owner so that he can ensure waitrons know the correct process.
Kind regards
Nicole Lewis
