POPIA violation and unauthorized Record Access

I received an unsolicited call from a salesperson at Outdebt claiming they assist people with settling their debt. I clearly and explicitly informed the agent that I do not have any debt. Despite this, the agent told me that she could see my credit record, which was already extremely concerning. What is even more alarming is that shortly after the call, I received a message stating that I had given consent for them to request my credit report. This is completely false. At no point did I give Outdebt, or any of their representatives, permission to access my credit information. This is a blatant invasion of my privacy and raises very serious legal and ethical concerns. Accessing or attempting to access someone’s credit information without proper consent is unacceptable and, if confirmed, ********. I will be escalating this matter and discussing it with my legal team. I am also considering reporting this to the relevant regulatory authorities. I strongly warn others to be extremely cautious when dealing with Outdebt. No company should be claiming consent that was never given or making people feel that their personal information is being accessed without their authorization. This matter will not be taken lightly.

Good day,Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. We take allegations relating to privacy, consent, and POPIA compliance extremely seriously.Outdebt does not access a consumer’s credit profile without the required consent and regulatory process being followed. In terms of the National Credit Act and POPIA, credit bureau enquiries may only be performed with proper authorization. If a notification was sent indicating consent, this would have been triggered by a recorded or documented interaction. That said, we are very concerned by your experience and would like to urgently investigate what occurred. It is never our intention for any consumer to feel that their personal information has been accessed improperly or without authorization. We kindly request that you provide us with your full name, ID number (via private message for security purposes), and the contact number that received the call so that our Compliance Department can conduct a full internal review, including call recordings and system logs.If any process was followed incorrectly, appropriate action will be taken immediately. We remain fully committed to operating within the requirements of POPIA, the National Credit Act, and all applicable regulations.Kind regards,
Outdebt Compliance Team
