Be careful what you buy

On 19 August 2015 I purchased an Acer Liquid Jade for my daughter. Two days after receipt I dropped the phone and the screen cracked.

I knew this had nothing to do with warranty and I started searching for the relevant spare part. Yesterday Acer-Africa informed me that the spare part is obsolete and cannot be supp****.

Firstly I called Orange. The agent was rather rude and bluntly told me that it is not their problem.

I then wrote an email to Orange explaining the situation. I also mentioned that I think that, under the Consumer Protection Act, it is not acceptable to sell items for which there are no spares available.

THEY DID NOT EVEN BOTHER TO READ MY MAIL PROPERLY.

The reply that I got explained that a broken screen is not covered by warranty (Duh!) and they offered to send me a list of repair agents (To do what? READ MY MAIL: NO SPARES).

Hello pietoos,

Thank you for your comment, please accept our apologies for the delay in response.

Sorry to hear about you dropping your device and cracking the screen.

It's unacceptable that one of our agents was rude, we will investigate this and ensure the necessary action is taken.

We are proud to work with a number of repair partners who can also assist with sourcing spares for devices which are not available in South Africa.

We can appreciate that the availability of spares can change from time to time and at times, estimates can be longer than normal however all products we do offer do have spares available, the only variant being the lead-time.

We have your details from prior correspondence and will continue to provide recommendations to you in order for your case to be resolved when possible.

Kind Regards,

Orange South Africa
