I realized on 31/10/2017 that I have been billed quite a bit more for my Vodacom cell phone contract for the July and August billing periods. I was billed an extra R228.02 in July and R263.10 in August (both amounts ex VAT) for content services which I certainly did not subscribe to. When I realized this, I immediately contacted Vodacom and they said it was for a WASP vidsmile service from Opera Telecoms which I apparently subscribed to on the 4th of July. I instructed Vodacom to unsubscribed me immediately, as I had no knowledge of what it was and never subscribed to anything. They unsubscribed me and advised me to contact Opera Telecoms myself, as they could not do anything about it from their side. So, I contacted Opera Telecoms on the number Vodacom provided me with ( ********** ) and they said they could also only unsubscribe me and that I have to lodge a complaint with WASPA, which I did so this morning.
Reply from WASPA: "Good Day. We have received your unwanted billing report. Your report will be dealt with as soon as possible. Regards."
Shortly thereafter I received an sms from Opera Telecoms which read: "Reminder: You can still check for videos on your mobile device: http://c.videosmile.org subscription R10/day sms stop to 31891 to stop or ********** 618 (VAS) for help"
My questions to Opera Telecoms is where is the proof (contract) that I signed into an agreement with them. Where is the proof that I have ever used your service? Never used or heard of vidsmile in my life before Vodacom informed me about it and most certainly did not subscribe to it. When can I expect back payment for the amounts charged (R559.88 including VAT)?
And to Vodacom, how can they allow this, as they are billing us and not Opera Telecoms. Vodacom is obviously getting compensation or a cut from this, so why do I need to take it up with Opera Telecoms? Vodacom, you billed me, so you should sort this out with them! Where is the contract that proves I have subscribed to this?
It is also very strange that when you apply for a mobile contract you need to fill in piles of contractual forms, but yet they require nothing to subscribe my number to a service (Vodacom), how can this be legal and binding?
Please help!!!! I want my money back ASAP!!!!
