NEVER INSURE WITH OOBA, LIKE NEVER! THEY WILL PAY HALF YOUR CLAIM.
I wish I had come onto this page before choosing you as my insurer and I'm writing this review to help others who do their homework before making a decision. My area had maintenance done on pipes so we didn't have water for 2 full days. When the water returned I had TWO occurrence which I can prove since I have a camera in my lounge that leads to my kitchen. No.1 - the kitchen tap was left open over the two days and no one notices since there was no flow of water, when the water returned we were home. My wife saw this immediately and we stopped the flow of water while it was in the kitchen. I have a recording of this and it happened around 5pm in the afternoon.
No.2 - I wake up at 2am to get water from the fridge and notice water coming out from under the couch, upon further investigation I notice that it's coming from a different part of the house as my second lounge which is elevated by two steps was also getting flooded. I then noticed the walls were also drenched in water from an outside room which is the domestic quarters, the domestic quarters have been empty since July. I walk out of the house as this is the only way to get in there and find the entire room flooded and water gushing out of the toilet. I take a video of my findings just in case I experience what I am now experiencing. Long story short the following has happened: 1) Two weeks not one call received from them u less I'm calling for feedback. 2) I was told my claim will be repudiated because of the kitchen tap that I disclosed. (Clearly you should NEVER be honest, lie to them and you'll be safe ) 3) I asked to send the video of the kitchen incident, no one wants the video, this cracked me up, 4 to 5 people, and not one said please send it and let us assess. 4) They send two assessors, one for the floors and one for the walls. The assessor for the walls says he can see where the damage came from and its definitely not from the kitchen. The assessor for the floors says it's negligence on my part as the kitchen tap was left open, when I ask if that's the case, how did the water get to the top lounge and the domestic quarters in the next room, he says i must speak to the insurer. 5) Ashley from Ooba tells me that after I have used the toilet I am meant to close the tap on the side of the toilet, I laughed and asked him if he thinks that's normal, he then says I just work here. 6) Useless managers, they speak to you, ask you to hold and then drop the call, when you call back you told they left for the day but will call first thing in the morning? First thing in the morning comes and nothing, the day ends and still nothing, you call in to request help, the agents drop the call when thru realize who it is. 7) Next day which is yesterday, I get another assessor to come in and look at the damage, he says he was told about a tap that was left running, I explain the occurrence and he says he understands and can definitely see it wasn't from the kitchen. 8) He investigated and found that the damage is coming from the toilet that hasn't been used since July. He then said to me that the pressure from when the water came back was too much for the toilet but the claim looks valid to him. 9) I call Ooba to find out the way forward and they say he did tell them it's not the kitchen but the toilet which was not negligence however because of some sort of reservoir, construction of the toilet, putty that was used YEARS ago and the toilet not being inspected when I bought the house 3 years ago they won't pick up the cost of repairing something that wasn't their fault, mind you I had my domestic in there and it worked just fine until July. 10) I get a call from the first builder who came to assess to arrange a date to replaster my walls and paint where the damage was, I give them a date they come I'm and they get on with their work. I ask Ooba if they've come to their senses, Nope! We not paying for the floors sir, I then ask how do I have almost 12 people in my house repairing walls and you cannot or will not repair my floors? No answer. I have spoken to Nina, Ashley, Wendy, Nadine, someone who pretended to be a manager. All USELESS! I have managed insurance call centre for going on 17 years and I must say I have never come across such. 11) They authorized the repairs of my walls and repudiated on the floors, this is a clear case of managing your loss ratio and profits so beware when your bond originator starts trying to run insurance companies. 13) I will be having Christmas lunch in a house that reeks of wet wooden floors and a wet carpet thanks to Uber. 14) I will be reporting this to the ombudsman.
I still have not received my repudiation letter which I need to take this matter to the ombudsman, I have requested this from Nina and Ashley and still nothing. I have not received a call from anyone from your management team to this day. Anyone looking to insure their home should really look into their "insurer's" repudiation rate, custome service and lastly how fair they handle their clients matter because Ooba does not treat customer fairly.
To this day no one has explained to me how the hell you pay for half a claim and not the other and the cause is the same thing! I need my repudiation letter and I'm still waiting for a call as promised above! Stop thieving!!
