Great with home loans, should STAY AWAY FROM OFFERING INSURANCE

What is the point of insurance if it pays for nothing??!!

After a massive storm, we noticed a bubble in our first floor room, accompanied by loud snapping noises. The bubble grew and looked like it cracked, but because we had laminate flooring it was a little flexible and did not snap. We immediately stressed thinking the slab was cracking, only to discover that there was tiles under the laminate flooring (surprise!). The tiles were popping up, so I called our insurance to register a claim, two days later we had someone come out and he took a couple of pictures, measured the room and lifted one tile. Three weeks later we called to inquire about our claim because we had not heard any news on the claim status. After a long wait of them trying to find the claim, we got told that it was rejected. Which I find super ridiculous as I must have missed the xray vision function which allowed me to see under another floor finish to assess the quality of what is underneath. We've been in the house a year, no issue, first big storm hits and now this is not claimable.

So unless you want to: 1. Not get called back with updates on your claim. 2. Not get called back when you ask them to re-asses. 3. Know that if anything big was to happen, you will probably not get any money back take insurance from them! If you have reasonable expectations, like me, rather take insurance from another place.

Lastly, when I followed up the first time, I said that if this was their attitude about claims, then I might have to cancel my policy. 30 mins later I get a mail about why I want to cancel, but still no call back with regards to my claim.

So obviously they don't want your business

Dear Mr. Nel

Your claim was received by Hollard Insurers on 17/07/2020 and the Service Provider inspected the property on 23/07/2020.

When the Service Providers report was received on 27/07/2020 (Monday) it was discussed with the relevant experts to make a decision on the claim.

After careful review your claim was declined due to the tiles popping up from under the laminated wooden floor due to expansion and contraction of the tiles over a period of time and this does not form part of any insured peril of the policy.

We will send you an e-mail from the claims department.

Kind Regards
