Putrid Ooba Home Owners Insurance

Ooba is underwritten by Hollard. Together these two companies provide ‘competitive premiums’ while selling value added products and policy extension that amount to nothing. This is further compounded by poor customer service and a deficiency of care for their clients.

In January 2019 my garage door motor was accidentally damaged. It was an accident, one cannot logically explain an accident and therefor it is an accident. I emailed Ooba to confirm if the garage door motor was covered under my schedule, they called me back saying the incident was and that I was to register my claim with Hollard. I then call Hollard explain everything I did to Ooba. The consultant (Musa Rooi) who lacks both etiquette or compassion for her clients through her unhelpful communication tells me my claim was rejected because it was not covered under my policy schedule. When I asked her what the policy wording was she could not answer but said it only covered damage caused by Natural Peril. I then asked her to send me all the information to log a dispute. She promised me that I would receive the documents & feedback in 48hours. Seven days later I received the correspondence saying that my claim was rejected.

[In the meantime I replaced the garage door motor because I could not access my property safely without it].

Once I received the documents I lodged my complaint/dispute with Ooba Insurance. A day later a representative from Hollard (Glynes Paid) emails me saying that I am correct and that my policy does cover accidental damage under its extensions. She also asked me to restate how the motor was broken and if the old motor was available for assessment. I rep**** to her explaining the incident and that she could send the assessor.

The assessor (Abie) arrived 3 days later, asked me the same questions like Ooba and Hollard and made his report by presumably sending a voice note supported by photos to Hollard.

Now two weeks later, dead silence from Ooba and Hollard and zero replies to my emails. I’ve tried calling them, but this isn’t viable because it means I have no record of the communication.

It’s extremely disappointing that a company with excellent franchisees who run their Bond Originating business can also provide service of the lowest standard to its clients dealing with their value added insurance products - which they upsell to existing clients.

Ooba is a phenomenal Bond Originator (be careful which franchisee you use); but their homeowners insurance underwritten by Hollard is pathetic. They oversell and under deliver on the service they promise.
