your pet insurance policy is as good as your first claim - ONEPLAN

In December 2023, I decided to enroll my dogs in Oneplan Pet Insurance due to the rising costs of animal healthcare. Unfortunately, this choice proved disappointing when one of my dogs sustained a leg injury over the weekend. Despite promptly seeking veterinary care, Oneplan rejected my claim, citing it as a special condition outlined in the policy which contains a 12month waiting period. So I need to pay 12 months before claiming.?!?!? The injury was not planned, I did not ask my dog to hurt himself. This experience has left me questioning the true value of having pet insurance when, in a time of genuine need, Oneplan falls short of providing the expected coverage.

It's disheartening that while insurance companies swiftly debit your account, they seem less willing to support you when you require assistance. This situation reflects a typical insurance company scenario where they prioritize profit over fulfilling their commitment to policyholders. It's frustrating to realize that when they should have your back, they are more focused on filling their pockets.

To anyone considering pet insurance, I strongly advise against choosing Oneplan. This experience has left me dissatisfied, and I want to caution others about the potential challenges they might face.

Dear Pieter,

Thank you for taking our call earlier.

We sincerely apologize for the circumstances under which your Hellopeter posting has reached us and for any inconvenience caused. We do take customer feedback seriously to improve our service and process to ensure that we meet our client’s expectations.

Upon investigation and with the information provided by the Vet we discovered that the condition that your fur-baby was treated for was, Cruciate Ligament Rupture (Right), this condition for your fur-bay would have been covered as follows for Hospital admissions related to cruciate ligament repairs, hip replacements, intervertebral disc and luxating patella we will pay as follows, notwithstanding pre-existing conditions or exclusions:
  1.  Months 0 - 3 : No Cover
  2.  Months 4 - 6 : 25% of the total account subject to the event limit up to a maximum of R4000.00
  3.  Months 7 - 12 : 50% of the total account up to a maximum of R8000.00

As per your policy schedule and the terms and conditions this condition was diagnosed within the first 3 months of cover and therefore the event cannot be covered.

Certain terms and conditions are always applicable, and these are included in all policy documents before and during your experience with us. The terms and conditions of the policy must be adhered to and app**** fairly for all clients, please note that this is by no means a ploy to refuse payment of the claim. We do have your fur-babies best interests at heart, and we will assist with all we can in line with our terms and conditions. Please note we are governed by the FAIS Act and must apply the TCF policy to ensure all our clients receive fair service and cover.

We encourage all our clients and potential clients to ensure that they understand all products available in the market and perhaps approach their Financial Advisor for a factual comparison of products as hearsay may cause a consumer to make a decision based on inaccurate information.

Once again, we apologize for any inconvenience caused and hope the above brings clarity to the matter.

Kind Regards,
Oneplan

Reviewer Update
Dear One Plan

I am writing to reiterate my request for the cancellation of my policy. I am adamant in my decision not to support Oneplan or any affiliated companies moving forward.

I don't appreciate your response, which seems to suggest that I may have been misinformed and need a better understanding of my policy. However, the essence of my dissatisfaction lies in the fact that, as clients, we secure policies with the belief that, in the unfortunate event of a claim, our pets will receive the necessary coverage.

During our recent telephone conversation, I conveyed a sentiment that encapsulates the inherent tension between insurance companies and their clients. We, as clients, anticipate that our premiums contribute to a safety net for our pets. Simultaneously, insurance companies seemingly anticipate that clients won't frequently or substantially claim on their policies.

The perception is that insurance providers meticulously scrutinize policy sections to safeguard their interests while showing less concern for clients during claim situations. This situation becomes more apparent because there aren't any issues when it comes to deducting money from our accounts every month.

Given these circumstances and my disappointment with the handling of my recent claim, I stand firm in my decision to terminate my association with Oneplan.

Please proceed with the cancellation of my policy as requested. I trust you will handle this matter promptly and efficiently.

and like I said during the call - Oneplan can go to hell for all that I care.
