07 Nov 2023, 12:39Dear S Naicker,
Thank you for taking the time to bring this to our attention.
We sincerely apologize for the circumstances under which your Hellopeter posting has reached us, and we apologize for any inconvenience caused.
Kindly note a late joiner penalty is not a compulsory inclusion in premiums however it is allowed under the Medical Schemes Act, Regulations and is set out under Section 13 together with the penalty bands. Oneplan is exempted under Demarcation, and this can be confirmed via the Council of Medicals scheme (CMS) website under Demarcation https://www.medicalschemes.co.za/insurers/.
The late joiner penalty is imposed on persons joining a medical scheme when they are 35 years of age or older and was not a member of one or more medical schemes before 01 April 2001, without a break in membership exceeding three consecutive months since 01 April 2021. Penalties may be imposed on the late joiner according to a prescribed formula in the Regulations that determines a maximum penalty according to the applicant’s penalty band. Late joiner penalties are imposed indefinitely and do not expire after a certain period.
Certain terms and conditions are always applicable, and these are included in all policy documents before and during your experience with us. We will assist with all we can in line with our terms and conditions. Oneplan subscribes to its TCF principles and will take all reasonable steps to ensure fair and equal treatment of all our clients.
We have acknowledged your complaint and we have escalated the matter to the relevant department. One of our consultants will be in contact with you to further discuss the matter at hand.
Once again, we apologize for any inconvenience caused.
Kind Regards,
Oneplan
