The joke's on...me? | An honest review of an admittedly honest syndicate
Oneplan Medical Insurance is a bit of an enigma.
They attempt to lure one in with "great out of hospital benefits" but, let's be real here, this is not much more than a glorified hospital plan.
Those same promised benefits are very limited (many not covered beyond the mere hundreds) and there are many exclusions so, even after the cordial reminders that they are "not a medical aid" nor should they be considered "as a replacement" thereof, it starts to feel like a gimmick once you're more acquainted with your actual policy schedule in front of you. Not to mention the odd c**** of having to preload appointments (really, it's dealing with levels of ineptness where the customer is aware of the Mediscor system and the business has not a clue) or the strange sort of inconvenience in loading your own claims by sending them a photograph of an invoice through a smartphone app, after the fact.
It's a bit of a gamble when you sacrifice high premiums for uncertain terms and conditions that you cannot possibly make complete sense of during the initial ambush of a smug telemarketer (I am a fan of their ability to speak for an hour's length without taking a single breath, but I digress). The profundity of pretext contrived for the sake of an attractive product leaves me with not much less than a state of bewilderment, which precedes the discovery of that nasty little devil who lies in wait amidst the details, of course. After all, you are the product and you get what you pay for, I suppose.
As foreclosure, I must say that my various gripes and moans do not equate these services to nought. Such is stated above in that it seems you truly do get what you pay for (though, perhaps, not what you ought to).
I am not sure how much hospitalization charges can amount to in the worst cases, which is what I grow weary of. I can only hope (pray?) that the value of my life will not exceed "R 205 000 (per event)", in the event that a highly intoxicated person attempts a U-Turn at 180 km/h while passing me on the highway, affording me a chance to fight the RAF another day.
We have attempted to contact you on the listed number; however, it was to no avail.
Should you wish to load funds for another claim, we would require for the previous day-to-day claim to be concluded before loading any further claims. Kindly note that the day-to-day benefit is separate from our In-hospital benefit. We are sad to hear that this process has presented itself as difficult or inconvenient, as our intention is the exact opposite.
We truly value your input on the above and would really appreciate the opportunity to gain more insight from you and see how we can rectify this whether it be in detailing our communication and explanations or taking a deeper look into the process itself from your perspective.
Once again, we apologize for the inconvenience caused and we hope to resolve the matter as soon as possible.
Kind Regards,
Oneplan

The real takeaway from my review, or rather what I wanted to communicate, is that I would have been satisfied without the out of hospital benefits. I cannot speak for everyone but that is my current opinion. Maybe, in time, I will learn to appreciate those other areas of cover such as dentistry and optometry, though I will never have use for maternity cover.
Only real let down was that the scripted medication that I need most is not covered. Could it have been too bold of me to assume that anything prescriptible by a GP would be inclusive?
Although I can hold the company in good faith that the various plans are well thought-out for the target market, I still can't help but feel like I would rather do without most of these "day-to-day benefits" with meager cover.
Oneplan presented a good option for our income bracket and we took it. A good medical aid is the end plan, but I have some peace of mind that something is better than nothing (especially with the current pandemic). I will continue to use Oneplan until such time comes.
