The benefit isn’t really a benefit don’t bother
I’ve been with One Plan for over two years and was surprised to learn that they allocate 900 Rand per year for day-to-day pet care, such as deworming. Pets typically need deworming every three months or monthly, depending on the medication. While this medication is widely available, my sister consulted them and discovered that it can only be purchased through a vet. This seems unnecessary, especially if you can provide proof of purchase elsewhere.
Additionally, you can pay an extra 90 Rand per month to access this 900 Rand benefit. However, 90 Rand multip**** by 12 months equals 1080 Rand, which means it’s cheaper to simply set aside the money yourself rather than paying the extra fee. Not to mention, you avoid the hassle of their restrictions.
I initially joined One Plan for the added benefits, but I’ve realized that 1500 or 1600 Rand per event doesn’t cover much at the vet. It might actually be more cost-effective to switch to a hospital plan with another provider. What’s the point of paying for these benefits if they don’t truly help when you need them and come with so many limitations?
I’ll be cancelling on Monday

We also inform the client of the available Pet Med Booster add-on option, which allows you to double the cover limit for the Pet Med savings benefit. Additionally, upon registration, you receive an email containing your policy schedule, which outlines your selected plan in detail.
As outlined in the policy schedule, point 5 states: “Please take note of the following term: If you have Pet Med Savings cover with Oneplan, you can use it for purchasing tick, flea, and deworming products from the Onepet Store (to take advantage of the discount specified on your policy). If not, the benefit can only be used at a registered South African Veterinarian Council practitioner.”
Furthermore, under General Exclusions (the stuff we do not cover) point number 7 states: “Services rendered by persons not registered with the SA Veterinarian Council.”We strongly encourage our clients to thoroughly review their policy documents to fami****ize themselves with their selected plan and its associated terms and conditions. These are made available at all stages of your policy experience with us.
