Penalizing me for canceling contract 12 days before the contract starts
I took pet insurance on the 9th September with *** the 30th Sep. I canceled on the 17th of Sept. They won't cancel it for 30Sept. I must pay 1 premium first because they have a 7 day cooling off period from day of signing. I'm going to investigate if this is even allowed. I canceled before the contract even started but they want my premium still. I am pretty sure that is eligal. A contract starts on the stipulated date and before then you can't penalize me for canceling.

We would like to clarify that your policy schedule outlines the following cancellation provision: "In the event of a cancellation request made prior to the policy’s commencement but more than seven days after the application, we require a notice period of one (1) month. During this notice period, premiums collected will not be subject to refund."
As your cancellation request was submitted outside of the seven-day cooling-off period from the date of application, the one-month notice period is applicable in full, in accordance with the terms and conditions of the policy. Although the policy had not yet commenced, the cancellation provisions contained in the policy schedule remain binding once the cooling-off period has elapsed.
For this reason, the premium due during the notice period remains payable and will not be refunded.
