Maternity Review - East London After so many bad reviews viewed on the health insurance, I am pleased that Oneplan has been a great fit for our family. I joined the plan at the end of 2024 and found out I am pregnant last year August 2025. My pre birth claims were paid into my bank account , a few misunderstandings initially but that was sorted out. I am on the Blue plan, so birth is capped at R55000. When I signed up for the plan, the agent did tell me that if my birth comes over the R55k , I would get the balance from my in hospital cover, which I later discovered is not the case. That was disappointing but I had some time to prepare to save up for any extra fees.

I spoke to the hospital, gynae, anesthetist, pediatrician beforehand about if they work with the insurance. Only the hospital accepted them (Royal Buffalo). I had to pay my gynae, anesthetist, and pediatrician upfront. Do all of this when you find out you are expecting, so you can plan. One plan is not a medical aid so they will not just cover it all like discovery does. I knew that going in, so my expectations were as the policy is laid out.

The hospital claimed R40 000 from the plan, so the balance that I could get out of them was R15000. The rest of the funds were from my pocket. The total birth amounted to just over R70000. If I had known I'm going to have another baby so soon after joining oneplan, I would have taken the plan higher than the blue plan where the birth cover is R70000.

Before putting claims in, I called in and spoke to the agents or chatted to them on whatsapp, to confirm that I'm doing the claims the right way, this was to avoid back and forth or any declines from the policy. It all worked out for me, I got paid my R15000 within one week of putting my claim in. I did this about 2 weeks after birth. I do believe the hosp will be paid as well. One plan issued the authorization and guarantee to pay letter to my hospital a week before my due date. I am happy with the service received for my birth , I was a bit anxious seeing all the negative posts , however you will need to read your policy and chat to your doctors before you set your expectations.
