Loop holes in the fine print

Friendly service, but the accident cover is limited to "Accident in Hospital Cover". This means that if your pet has an accident, but doesn't need to spend the night in hospital, the the bill is on you.

Here's an example of a rejected claim: Our 2 dogs swallowed some Rattex, and the bill came to over R2,000 to simply induce vomiting. We were told to keep the dogs at home and bring them back if they got worse. Because they didn't stay the night, OnePlan rejected the claim.

You pet either needs to have a severe illness, or in an accident bad enough that they need to spend the night at the hospital. Just be aware - this caught us out more than once! And here we are paying insurance, and the vet bill. What a *******!

Watch for the loop holes in the fine print.

For those interested in the wording of the rejection letter:

For a claim to be considered under Accident Cover, the invoice must reflect details of a procedure and/or inpatient treatment administered for the diagnosed condition, and where a charge for an overnight admission is reflected, it will be wholly considered. Unfortunately, admission for only diagnostics is not covered.

Hi Leen,

We are sorry to hear about the incident where your fur babies were poisoned  and we hope they make a speedy recovery.

With regards to claim in question, although the incident itself is certainly considered an accident, the claim itself does not qualify for accident cover as there was no admission for treatment or a procedure.
The services rendered on the invoice fall under the vet visit cover limit which would have been covered on our comprehensive Classic and Super plan up to their respective cover limits. This is in line with our policy terms and conditions.

Kind Regards
Oneplan

For all those considering OnePlan, rather check out DotSure.

DotSure offers accident cover (R190 per month for 3 pets) that does not require a hospital stay. By comparison, OnePlan Hospital plan costs (R420 for 3 pets) and they require an overnight hospital stay before they cover any claim.

In short, read the fine print. And if you are looking for affordable cover, without loop holes in the fine print, chose DotSure over OnePlan!
