Don't take a Oneplan policy. There are much better pet insurance companies available now
Oneplan have slowly spiraled from a an excellent Pet Insurance to a greedy company with no interest in keeping clients. I took a policy with Oneplan nearly 6 years ago, and found their claim system and cover amazing. I was able to load a claim on to their OneCard and use the funds at the vet for whatever claim I had, and then submit proof to Oneplan to validate the claim and spend at the vet. Thereafter they ammended their claims process to one where we could now only claim for Vet Visits/routine care through the card, but accidental and illness claims had to first be paid to the vet then claimed back from OnePlan. I'm not sure if the company actually realised at the time - we take these policies because we don't actually have the funds available to pay for large medical bills. They then changed the claims process again to where we can only claim for up to 4 visits a year. This almost limits you to only being able to use an amount that is around the same as your premiums paid in a year. It makes more sense to keep the money aside and pay for vet visits yourself and take a hospital plan elsewhere. The further changed their accidental and illness claims to only cover when an overnight stay is reflected. I can only assume they wanted to reject more claims using this wording. Most recently they decided to increase my premium by R70, for no particular reason, and they intend on increasing this again in June. When I called to query the agent just said their other clients understand the fee increase, no effort was made to consider reducing it. Nor was she interested when I requested to cancel the policy, all she did was advise me that I need to email a different department. You clearly don't intend on retaining clients. My sister's dog is also insured through Onepet, and requested her premium increase to be reconsidered, but obviously Onepet would not entertain that. She cannot move her dog to another insurer as he is now over 10 and they will not offer full cover. I have found a much better insurer and will be moving my pet over, and will also make sure to advise everyone to change their insurer as well.
