DO NOT GET Oneplan pet insurance!!!!!

We currently have Oneplan pet insurance. We took it out for our pedigree cat who we love dearly. We had heard so many good things about Oneplan that we actually took out the second best insurance option for the pet, assuming that they were going to be decent and pay out when required.

Long story short, we got our cat in December 2023. The next few months were spent trying to figure out why she was always sneezing. Three vets later and the best diagnosis we got was 'chronic snuffles' which the insurance company was paying for in terms of vet visit claims. All fine.

However, the cat never seemed to get fully better. So, as responsible owners, we took her to a specialist. Over R5k later she was diagnosed with feline leukemia, which of course was devastating as the breeder had us also sign a contract where she guaranteed the cat is negative for FeLV and FIV. But that's a whole different issue.

So, since oneplan only pays out R1.4k per vet visit, we submitted the bill from the specialist to ask if we could be reimbursed (even for just the R1.4k standard vet visit cover they load on the card).

THEY REJECTED THE ENTIRE CLAIM. They then proceeded to tell us that they will not pay because the snuffles is a symptom of leukemia and therefore is PRE-EXISTING. Tell me, how were we meant to know the cat has leukemia? Not a single vet we took her to was able to diagnose her, only a specialist. If we had not taken her there, we would be none the wiser. And secondly, the ignorance and condescension to assume that snuffles is a direct link to leukemia is so incredibly naive. So many cats, every year, are diagnosed with snuffles and do not have leukemia. It is a VERY common cat sickness.

We all know that this company will use this FeLV diagnosis as an excuse to never cover any issue of the cat that may arise in the future so I would run FAR FAR away from them. You take out pet insurance to PREVENT paying exorbitant amounts of money and for peace of mind that your pet is going to be OK no matter what. That is absolutely NOT something Oneplan is able to say they are capable of. I would advise anyone with Oneplan to reconsider because you NEVER know what might happen to your pet (as what happened with us) and you expect the expensive insurance you pay for will do as they say they will and pay towards the pet care. Now I'm stuck paying ridiculous vet costs AND for insurance that is useless and does not even pay their prescribed vet visit amount. Absolutely disgusted by this company and the way they have conducted themselves.

Dear Courtney,

Thank you for taking the time to bring this to our attention.

We are sorry to hear of the circumstances under which your Hellopeter posting has reached us and we do apologize for the inconvenience caused. We do take customer feedback seriously to improve our service and process to ensure that we meet our client’s expectations.

Kindly note terms and conditions of the policy must be adhered to and app**** fairly for all clients, please note that this is by no means a ploy to refuse payment of the claim. We do have your fur-babies best interests at heart.

We have attempted to contact the policy holder on the list number; however, it was to no avail.

Records on our system confirm that your fur-baby was covered from the 24th of December 2024. The claim form and medical history from the Vet state that your fur-baby was diagnosed with Chronic Snuffles which is a symptom of the Feline Leukaemia Virus. This condition has been ongoing since the 21st of December 2024.

As the diagnosis was made before the inception of the policy, the condition is deemed pre-existing, and your fur-baby is still within the 12-month waiting period for Pre-Existing Conditions as stipulated in the Policy Schedule.

Kindly note that according to our policy terms and conditions,  Pre-Existing Condition means a medical condition, or condition that presented Clinical Signs, that were in existence prior to this policy’s Inception Date, or in existence during the first sixty (60) days within the waiting period or that was newly diagnosed within the first two months from the Inception Date of the policy, whether it was known or unknown to you. This kind of condition existed before your policy began and it doesn’t mean that your pet was diagnosed with it, he or she could even have been showing the symptoms for it to be classified as pre-existing.
Certain terms and conditions are always applicable, and these are included in all policy documents before and during your experience with us. We will assist with all we can in line with our terms and conditions. Terms and conditions of the policy must be adhered to and app**** fairly for all clients. Oneplan subscribes to its TCF principles and will take all reasonable steps to ensure fair and equal treatment of all our clients as we do have all our client's best interests at heart.

We have since proceeded to send an email to the policy holder.

Once again, we apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Kind Regards,
Oneplan
