BE WARNED - DO NOT USE ONEPLAN PET INSURANCE
BE WARNED - DO NOT USE ONEPLAN PET INSURANCE
I had an emergency situation, Friday 25/10/2019. My dog broke his back and when I took him to the vet at 7pm on a Friday, Oneplan Pet Insurance was completely unreachable for assistance. I asked for a senior manager at another Oneplan department to call me back immediately and I am still waiting for the call to this day. Oneplan Pet Insurance call center only operates during business hours during the week and morning on Saturday. If you have an emergency, THEY CANNOT BE REACHED AFTER HOURS.
The vet informed me that I had until midday the following day (Saturday) to make a decision regarding whether or not to operate or the health of my dog would be in jeopardy. I eventually had to put my dog down at midday on Saturday after numerous calls and begging and pleading with Oneplan Pet Insurance because the operation costs of R30k to R35k would not be paid out by the scheme until the claim was finalised AFTER the operation. The vet required a 50% deposit and the remaining balance to be paid after the operation before release of the animal. Essentially this means YOU HAVE TO PAY THE OPERATION COSTS IMMEDIATELY YOURSELF AND CLAIM BACK FROM ONEPLAN.
As animal *****s we buy these kinds policies so that when emergencies occur we have the piece of mind that our beloved pets will be looked after and cared for. If I had rather saved the R500 to R1000 a month I have been paying Oneplan Pet Insurance for the past 4 to 5 years in a savings account, I could have easily saved my dog rather than having to put him down. I suggest that rather than buying a plan from Oneplan Pet Insurance, you save your money separately and you will be probably be better off in the long run.
I give this business one star only because there is no way to give them a 0 or negative count. SEVERELY DISGUSTED and CANCELLING ASAP.
On behalf of Oneplan, we are sorry to hear of the circumstances under which your Hellopeter posting has reached us and we do offer our sincerest condolences for your loss.
Hospital risk cover is done slightly differently. If your pet is admitted overnight, you can claim for this depending on the incident.
We will require that the vet fills out claims forms which you can then submit to us along with the invoices. Once assessed, if approved, we will issue a refund into your bank account.
A senior manager will contact you in this regard shortly.
Kind regards
The Oneplan Team

So this is what my complaint boils down to. Because I did not have R17,500 laying around for a deposit and another R17,500 to pay after the operation, I had to euthanise my dog. The very reason I had pet insurance was for this exact circumstance. Seriously, who pays R500 to R1000 a month for pet insurance and still has R35,000 laying around to pay the vet until the pet insurance can refund you in 5 to 10 working days? Absolute bull****
