OMBUDSMAN NOT FOR THE CUSTOMER MUST THE INSUSRER
I wrote an email to the insurance ombudsman regarding my insurance policy that was cancelled by Dotsure without my knowledge. I got a call from one of them telling me that they can't help me since i didn't loose any of my phones. I am so very disappointed in them as they seem to be for the insurer than the customer. how can you tell a client to just go and find another insurance company? what if I find another one and the do the same thing? consumers will continue to be abused as long as the people who are supposed to protect them are always on the side of the perpetrators.
how come when I am the one cancelling my policy i forfeit my premiums whilst on the other hand they don't forfeit the premiums I paid when they cancel my policy without my knowledge. I am not going to take this lying low. I am going to fight for my rights as the customers if that means no one fights for us.
Generally, an insurer may unilaterally cancel your policy for any reason determined by its underwriting guidelines. The Policyholder Protection Rules however provide that you must be given 30 days written notice before the cancellation is effected.
Your premiums are paid in advance for the month in which your insurer affords you cover. Therefore, when a policy is cancelled, by either party, the premiums paid for the preceding months are not refunded. Simply put, you enjoyed cover during the operation of the policy and your insurer collected a premium for that cover.
You may provide your OSTI reference number if you wish for me to address the specific merits of your case.

why is it that if i fail i forfeit my premiums while a company that cancelled my policy without my knowledge gets to walk scot free? why don't the same rules apply to both parties. is i true that insurance companies get enriched through unfair treatment of customers?
