Make no mistakes when submitting claims or you will be called a lier.
I approached the Obutsman after my Budget Insurance Claim was denied (I was blatnely told that I am dishonest and a lier). I found this unacceptable as all the proof was supp**** to my insurer. That place me on the Road of the Ombutsman for short term insurance. I explained my situation to them and after several months they came back to me informing me that they agreed with Budget Insurance. My message to people with insurance is that please do not make or write any statements when you are stressed because mistakes are seen as blatant lies.

We would like to take this opportunity to clarify the legal position in cases similar to the one you have described.
There is a contractual obligation on every policyholder to supply true, correct, and complete information regarding a claim in order for the insurer to establish the facts surrounding the loss and to determine its liability toward the claim. The policy contract then states that the insurer will reject a claim and/or cancel the policy if any dishonest information relating to a claim is provided by the insured. An insurer validates this information during the assessment of the claim. When a complaint concerning this rejection reason is submitted to the Ombudsman, we consider this evidence together with the information you provide to make a decision on the outcome of the dispute. As this is a civil matter, the standard of proof is on a balance of probabilities. In assessing the probabilities, all the evidence is considered as part of a single investigation into the acceptability or otherwise of the insurer’s or the insured’s version.

I wish to inform you that I believe that I did more than most people would have done in a similar situation. I even went out looking for visual evidence by driving around and looking for possible video footage. I did not at any stage supply misleading information. Yes I admit at making a mistake in the fact that one of the items were misplaced and the other I informed them that the rod and reel was supp**** by my ex, however as per my previous statement I would like to draw your attention to the fact that I have been traumatized and still have nightmares regarding this matter. Not only was my privacy evaded, I was made to feel like a ******** by my own insurance company. I fail to understand how the probabilities ended up in me being a **** and a ***** and I take strong offence thereto. Why would one want an insurance if this is how one is treated by not only the Insurer but the Ombutsman for Insurance.
