Ineffectual Ombudsman for Short Term Insurance
This review is based on my experience, opinion & perception. Anybody considering appealing a short-term insurance claim rejection should not bother approaching OSTI. They will waste your time for up to 4 months (their claim), not communicate voluntarily and simply act as a toothless middle-man between you and the insurer forwarding e-mail & documents to and fro. Their bias towards the insurer is blatant and you would be better off cutting ties with your insurer immediately and placing your business elsewhere.

We have internal escalation processes and ultimately an appeal process where different people would look at escalated matters.
If you believe that your matter was not handled properly or that the decision was incorrect, biased or unfair, you have the option of using the scalation process, so that someone else can have a look at the matter.
Alternatively, the courts are also an option, as our finding ought to have indicated.
Whatever option you take, we trust it will be worthwhile.
Had you provided our reference details I would have looked into the matter to give you a synopsis of my own evaluation.
Yours faithfully

As anticipated, dealing with you has been a total waste of time and effort and your perceived bias towards the insurer has not changed. I hope you feel guilty ever time you get your salaries because my perception is that you have no power and seem to act as a go-between rehashing all the dealings and correspondence I had directly with ABSA for months.
I will now cancel my cover with ABSA, which I would have done months ago if you had not given me false hope. I’ve cursed ABSA, and you, every time the debit order was processed.
I won’t escalate this with you because it will just delay the inevitable and I will need to keep my cover with ABSA if I have any naïve hope of getting a different result.
Instead, I will escalate it myself in the public domain.
Thanks for nothing.
