1 year, still no concrete feedback

Case ref k194/19. It has been just over a year that I reported my case against my insurer. However, the case has still not been resolved any I haven't received any feedback that gives me any hope of the matter being resolved.

There have been endless delays in the process and my insurer being allowed multiple extensions to respond- which I do not fully understand, as I tried my utmost best to cooperate, state my case and provide all the necessary information in accordance to OSTI timeframes.

For an entire year, I have been sitting with a business vehicle that was returned to me by my insurer in stripped condition beyond repair, and it can no longer serve it's purpose. I have had to continue to pay the bank for this vehicle (when it would previously pay for itself, and provide me with an income). In addition to a loss of income due to this incident, this has been a traumatic experience that has caused me immense emotional and psychological distress.

I do understand that OSTI processes take time. I have done my best to be patient over the last year. However, this has become extremely distressing. I would appreciate any kind of update that indicates precisely where we are in the process of finding a resolution or an estimated time frame in which my matter will be resolved.

Dear Boitumelo Khunou

We acknowledge receipt of your complaint, and regret that your matter has taken longer to resolve than you had anticipated.

Your insurer has gone through various administrative changes, which resulted in delays - hence the extensions afforded to it.

The nature of our dispute resolution process is that we cannot resolve a complaint until our office is in receipt of all the relevant information relating to the dispute.

The Assistant Ombudsman allocated your complaint will write to you in the next 48 hours with a comprehensive status update.

Yours faithfully,

Ayanda Mazwi
Senior Assistant Ombudsman.
