Customer Service Experience at OK Furniture Kuruman
On February 8, 2025, I visited OK Furniture in Kuruman with the intention of purchasing a Chester fridge. Upon entering the store, I was immediately approached by a group of sales representatives, all eager to assist. One of them enquired if I needed help, to which I responded affirmatively. She then handed me a small red slip before abruptly shifting her attention to another customer who had entered behind me.
As I continued browsing for the fridge, another sales representative approached me and offered to assist. I explained what I was looking for, and she proceeded to check stock availability. While waiting, a sales representative named Tracey approached me with a group of other customers whom she was already assisting. She asked whether I needed help, stating that she was now available to assist me.
At this point, I was unhappy with her approach as it became evident that she had initially disregarded me as a serious customer and was only now willing to assist because I was making a purchase. When I informed her that I was already receiving assistance from another sales representative, she reprimanded me in front of her colleagues and other customers, stating that I was being unfair to her by allowing another representative to assist me.
This experience left me feeling humiliated and undervalued as a customer. In today’s evolving business world, the fundamental principle that "the customer is king" remains unchanged. A great sales representative must focus on providing genuine service without the immediate expectation of a sale. Building trust and relationships with customers leads to long-term loyalty and repeat business.
Unfortunately, the treatment I received from Tracey made me feel like I was being judged and dismissed until I was ready to purchase. I have previously shopped at OK Furniture and House & Home stores in KwaZulu-Natal and East London, where I have consistently received five-star service. The experience at OK Furniture Kuruman did not meet these expectations, and I believe Tracey’s approach does not reflect the values and service standards of the OK Furniture brand.
I strongly recommend that Tracey receive customer service training to align her approach with your company’s values and ensure all customers feel acknowledged and respected. Every customer interaction should be based on courtesy, professionalism, and a commitment to service excellence.
