Unresolved Boot Defect Nissan Magnite (3 Months at the service center)
Dear Nissan South Africa & Nissan Pinetown, I am writing to express my extreme dissatisfaction with the service regarding my vehicle, which has been at the Nissan Pinetown service center for over THREE MONTHS without resolution. Despite multiple attempts at communication to escalate the issue, I have yet to receive a valid response or a permanent fix. My vehicle is a Nissan Magnite, which was sent in for a boot issue, whereas the boot did not open when we pressed the unlock button, and since then, there have been multiple attempts to resolve the issue, but the service center has failed to repair the problem. Technicians from Nissan SA assisted as well and have failed. Upon communication with Nissan employees on multiple occasions, the same outcome and response were given: they had advised me that the wiring was still at fault, which is unacceptable as they had replaced the entire unit that controls all electronics in the vehicle (employee names withheld). I emailed Nissan SA with a demand for resolution on 22 May 2025 and have not yet received a response on that. I communicated with another customer representative for Nissan SA on 02/06/2025 and was told that the technical support closed the assessment as they could not find a solution and opened another technical assessment to send in another team to assess the problem. This has been going on for 3 months. Your workshop has repeatedly attempted the same repairs without successfully diagnosing the root cause. They have replaced the entire harness or unit in the vehicle and could not solve the problem. They have disassembled the vehicle from front to back. This is not only frustrating but also unacceptable for a brand that promises reliability and customer care. Summary of Issue: • Date first reported: February 2025 • Nissan Service Center: CMH Nissan Pinetown • Nature of defect: Boot mechanism failure—unable to open. • Duration in repair: Over 60 days (unacceptable delay). I have followed up via phone calls, yet your team has failed to provide: 1. A clear diagnosis of the problem, 2. A realistic timeline for resolution, Under Section 56(2) of the Consumer Protection Act (CPA) 2008, I am entitled to: 1. A full refund (less reasonable wear & tear), or 2. A replacement vehicle of the same or similar model, since the defect substantially impairs the vehicle’s use and has not been repaired within a reasonable time. As of day 1, the vehicle has been giving us countless issues, such as • The radio goes off and comes back on after a certain time • The wiper bounces on the glass • The exhaust had a rattling noise • The fog lights stopped working and a new unit had to be ordered This level of service is far below the standards expected from a reputable manufacturer like Nissan. I demand • Immediate action to resolve the issue, I have no choice but to escalate this to the Motor Industry Ombudsman (MIOSA) and social media platforms. I expect a written response within 24 hours with a concrete plan. This situation has caused immense inconvenience, and I will not tolerate further delays.
