Serious safety fault mishandled during service – no follow-up and no resolution from Nissan dealership

I am posting this for escalation, as I have received no follow-up to date from the dealership regarding the repair of a critical safety-related system fault.

I booked my vehicle in for a scheduled service and, on arrival, clearly informed the service advisor that the vehicle had an intermittent warning light affecting safety and driver-assist systems, including crash detection and cruise control.

Although the warning was not active at the time, I provided a screenshot and explained that the error had occurred multiple times.

I was later informed that no faults were found, which I found concerning, as such warnings should be logged by the vehicle’s diagnostic system. I contacted the service advisor to request that the diagnostic system be checked again or that the relevant systems be investigated.

Unfortunately, the response was dismissive, and I was advised to return only once the warning appeared again.

As soon as I left the dealership, the warning light came on, and I returned immediately. Only then was the vehicle connected to the diagnostic system, where the technician identified low-voltage fault logs dating back two months.

This was deeply concerning, as it indicated that my vehicle had not been properly scanned during the original service, despite my specific and repeated requests.

The fault was identified but could not be repaired at the time, as parts needed to be ordered. This was particularly unacceptable as the vehicle was serviced in preparation for a long trip.

I left the dealership with unresolved system errors and disabled cruise control, despite the issue being acknowledged.

Most concerning is that no one from the dealership has contacted me since to schedule the required repairs. The vehicle is still under warranty, the fault is known, and yet there has been no communication, follow-up, or accountability.

I am currently driving a vehicle with a known safety-related fault.

This experience reflects a serious lack of diligence, communication, and concern for customer safety and has significantly undermined my confidence in the dealership and the brand.

Requested Resolution:

As a reasonable and proportional resolution, I request that Nissan South Africa:

1. Urgently schedule and complete the repair of the identified system fault, while the vehicle remains under warranty; and 2. Provide a complimentary two-year extended service plan, as I am currently out of service plan and have lost confidence that my vehicle was properly inspected during the last service, despite raising a safety-critical concern.

Given the nature of the fault, the failure to diagnose it during the booked service, and the complete lack of follow-up to date, this would be an appropriate gesture of goodwill to restore confidence and ensure the continued safe operation of the vehicle.

Thank you to Nissan South Africa for acknowledging the matter and opening a case for investigation on 6 February 2026. However, I have not yet been contacted to discuss what occurred, to provide further information, or to schedule a date to repair the identified system fault. I am awaiting engagement and a clear path to resolution.

Months of unresolved system faults – now Nissan says my warranty may be forfeited

UPDATE / FORMAL ESCALATION

Unfortunately, this matter has now reached the point where I am no longer prepared to accept the lack of communication and resolution from Nissan South Africa.

Nissan SA has opened case ***8, following my earlier case ***1. Despite my repeated emails and updates, I have received no substantive response whatsoever from Nissan South Africa.

My X-Trail was booked into Nissan Randburg on 8 September for the same intermittent system fault that I originally reported months ago. Nissan kept the vehicle until 12 September for further diagnostic testing and road testing. I have been provided with Nissan diagnostic documentation referring to P1564 – ASCD Steering Switch, associated with the cruise-control system, and understand that a repair/component is now awaiting quotation and warranty approval.

I have now been telephonically informed by the dealership that Nissan may forfeit my warranty because my service history is allegedly not up to date, and that the repair will therefore probably not be covered.

I dispute this and have requested that Nissan provide the alleged missing service history and its warranty position in writing. To the best of my knowledge, I have maintained my vehicle appropriately and do not believe I have simply missed the services being alleged.

More importantly, this fault was reported to Nissan months ago while the vehicle was under warranty. I repeatedly asked for it to be investigated. The problem was not resolved and has continued intermittently until Nissan has now apparently identified a specific cruise-control-related fault.

I want Nissan South Africa to explain in writing exactly which service was allegedly missed, why it believes my warranty is affected, what component has now failed, and—critically—whether Nissan is alleging that the supposed missed service has any relationship to the failure of the cruise-control/ASCD system.

I have tried repeatedly to resolve this privately and professionally. Nissan South Africa has simply not responded.

I now expect Nissan South Africa to take ownership of this case, provide a substantive written response, and resolve the outstanding fault.
