Potential Health Risk From Brand New XTrail
Good day.
I have experienced very poor service from Nissan after reporting to them that the leather installed in my car was defective. This occurred after leaving the car parked at the airport parking for a week whilst I was away and upon returning, I found the leather to be covered in white streaks. I suspect exposure to the sun caused this defect to show. The leather was eventually replaced by Nissan and I was informed by the Nissan salesman that this was possibly mold. The defective leather possibly caused a rash on my infant two weeks prior and she was placed on anti-histamines for 10 days.
Nissan will not tell me if this is indeed mold, what caused the mold and if it is safe to take my infant into the car again. In fact, they have been most unhelpful and it has been quite a fight all the way. After following all their escalation procedures, I was eventually told that I can have the leather tested myself and at my own cost. I asked for samples and was sent the wrong leather. I asked again and was sent samples of the leather that had been washed. So clearly they are destroying evidence - a very dangerous thing to do when an infant's life is involved. I'm not sure what they are trying to hide. I even asked to speak to the MD and the customer relation manager **** to me about him being in meetings then later emailed me and said he is in Japan and cannot assist. I will never buy from Nissan again. They have been completely unhelpful and very untruthful. Eventually, it boiled down to them not really caring about the child and washing their hands of the issue and its consequences, despite admitting the issue to be a defect and replacing the leather.
According to Nissan in the last 150 years, there has never been a case as described. A quick google listed numerous cases (example: http://www.theallergista.com/…/2014/9/20/allergyeczema-story).
Being a brand new car, can anyone tell me if this is indeed mold, what the cause is, if it is in the car seats or air vents and if it is safe to take my infant into the car. I have seen that the effects of mold on infants can be anything from skin issues to brain damage (https://www.livestrong.com/…/226575-what-is-the-effect-of-…/).
I've spoken to both the dealership (Randburg), the leather fitter (Handel Street Upholsters) and Nissan headoffice. All with a great deal of effort and without any success. I care about my daughter's health and need to understand what the risk and exposure is.
As Nissan is unwilling to assist, I'm looking to the community for assistance.
Thanks in advance.
