NISSAN MAGNITE BRAKES!!!
In summary the complaint was the following. - The vehicle had approximately 18 500 km in terms of mileage and the next service was due only at 20 000 km. On the 13th of September 2024 we informed the dealership that the brakes where so bad that it sounded like bare metal on metal. We were requested to please bring the car in, and they will do a service on the vehicle and address the issues.
- The vehicle was brought to the dealership on the 16th of September for a Service at which point we were advised that the brake pads need to be replaced and they were very close to being completely worn out.
- The vehicle was serviced and returned to us at which point at roughly 250 km after the service we had a clear noise coming from the brakes again that again sounded like a metal-on-metal grind that was also confirmed by your workshop manager on the 27th of September after a test drive.
- We were advised that the vehicle will be taken back into the workshop, the brake disks will be skimmed to remove any unevenness on the face of the disk and the brake pads from the service on the 23rd will be replaced with aftermarket brake pads as Nissan is aware that the recommend brake pads are not adequate due to a change in the compound of the brake pads. As per the internal Nissan communication shared with us.
This leads us to the current status, and we would in writing like to state the following. - We appreciate the fact that Northwest Nissan was willing to assist and skim the disk and replace the brake pads. We unfortunately still feel that this is treating a symptom and not the cause. Driving to work this morning the brakes again started to grind. It is not as loud. But it is still grinding.
- We were advised that this is listed as a "Client Dissatisfaction" Item and not a mechanical or technical fault. Yet what is concerning us the most is we have been advised that irrespective of what the technicians do the problem is unavoidable and will continue to happen. "It will just sound like your brakes are worn out. But they will not fail". One would be willing to try and accept this but now we are faced with a situation that does it just sound like the brakes are worn out, or are they actually, worn out? As we saw the brakes had to be replaced at 18 500 km. 1500 km before the service was due, and after the brakes were replaced at the 10 000 km interval.
So we do not have brakes that can be guaranteed to last until the next service where we can be responsible owners to ensure the brakes are checked at every service interval. The brakes might also not fail just with the sound but when they are too worn out, they will fail. And when do we know that they are indeed really worn out and when is it just the sound.
- Our other concern is after our meeting on Friday the 27th of September 2024, we had a meeting with Llewellyn and Francois where after the workshop manager test drove the car to verify that the brakes were not as they should be. We were advised that Llewellyn and Francois will have a meeting with Hennie on 30th of September 2024 to discuss the way forward. The car will also be taken in on the same day to skim the disks and replace the brake pads. We however had to reach out on the day to find out what would be happening with the car in terms of skimming the disks and replacing the pads. We were not contacted to arrange this. The car was also returned to us without a job card or some form of written record on what was done.
When we asked what would happen moving forward after the meeting between Hennie, Llewellyn and Francois, we were merely told that "we must drive the car". Drive the car until the issue returns, then what? All while we are adding more kilometers onto the vehicle, further lowering its value. Lastly we want to ask, if this is a problem with the model that Nissan acknowledges and is aware of, as per the Nissan internal communication shared with us. Are new buyers made aware of this when buying this model. Because if they are then we are sure most would not opt to buy the vehicle when given the opportunity to make an informed decision. To our understanding when there is an issue like this, there would be a recall on the vehicle and resolved.
