FAILURE TO DEPLOY DRIVER’s AIRBAG IN MAJOR FRONT END COLLISION - np200 1.6 A/C SAFETY PACK P/U S/C

Absolutely horrified! My fiancé bought a BRAND NEW NISSAN np200 1.6 A/C SAFETY PACK P/U S/C in Jan 2020, believing it would be the amazing “work horse” it has been advertised to be. It never quiet lived up to his previous FORD Bantam 1.6 though and at least FORD’s driver’s airbag actually deploys in the event of a major front end collision. YES he was wearing his seat belt!

After finding another complaint on HelloPeter which was posted in March 2020, regarding NISSAN airbags failing to deploy in a major collision and after reading the reviewers further complaint regarding NISSAN SA’s failure / refusal to provide him with a copy of the Technical Inspection Report that was carried out on his vehicle and telling him to hire an attorney in order to obtain a copy of the report from NISSAN’s legal team, I am already aware of how this matter is going to be handled by NISSAN, however we are not strangers to this process as we have been through it before with HYUNDAI SA following my i30’s failure to deploy the drivers airbag in a major front end collision. We are well aware of our rights as consumers so please don’t try bull **** us because we are not fools when it comes to this specific safety issue. We EXPECT NISSAN SA to investigate and carry out a FULL Technical Inspection on the vehicle and provide us with its findings.

Withholding a report such as this from the consumer would be in direct contradiction to the CPA which is in place to protect the consumer from such harmful business practices. I find it rather concerning that a manufacturer would rather have a record sealed so that no one would ever know that the airbags might be of serious concern rather than ensuring the safety of its consumers simply to avoid the impact of negative publicity around something as vital as an airbag.

The Consumer Protection Act regulates “product safety”. The manufacturer is obligated to “supply safe products” and the consumer has the right to demand safe and good quality products as per Section 55 of the CPA.

Its not ok to have innocent people’s blood on your hands because profitability and publicity are more important. We will ensure other consumers out there are made aware that by purchasing this vehicle their safety and lives may be at risk.
