DON'T EVER BUY A NISSAN X TRAIL 1.6 Diesel

I bought a brandnew Nissan X Trial 1.6 dci XE Diesel in 2015. The vehicle has done 34 615km .

It is now the 5th time that it had to go back to the dealer for the DPF issue. All the diesels except the new Navara suffer from this problem , where it builds up a specific level of soot in the Diesel Polifiration Filter .

The instument cluster then comes up with a "Stop Start" error and put the vehicle in limp mode where you can only travel between 40 and 60km/h. The vehicle needs to go back to the dealer for a "regeneration " to get rid of the soot levels and error message.

If you are lucky the process take around 5 hours. On two occasions my vehicle had to stay overnight at the dealer to get sorted. I can't describe the frustration and stress this has caused. Especially when you rely on a new car to get you safe from point A to B .

In most occasions dealers don't have courtesy vehicles to help out and I am stranded without transport.

The problem are mainly caused when a lot of short distance travelling are done. Unfortunately nobody tells the client beforehand. We tried to remedy the problem by taking it on the highway every second week and drive it above 3000 rev for 25 km. This is supposed to cause an automatic regeneration , but not with much success.

I feel nothing has been done from Nissan SA or Japan to resolve this problem. The dealers have to follow this "Regeneration" procedure to get you back on the road. There are no communication out to get a permanent solution in place. Apart from the inconvenience , I belief there will be another battle once the vehicle are out of warranty.

The wiring harnass has been replaced and some software update was done to try fix the problem.

Still no luck.

Tell your clients that you have a problem with the vehicle before they buy it.

Seriously Nissan , I'm sure you can come up with some solution to overcome this problem.

Until there is a permanent fix , I will not recommend that anyone buy a diesel Xtrail.

Really a great car .... if it's running.
