Do not buy a Nissan X-Trail

The Nissan Xtrail has a problem with its breaks.

I have a new car and had to have the breaks skimmed at 20 000km. I have never had to have this done with any other car (all Toyotas that were driven to around 150 000km).

I have seen other complaints about this exact same issue here on hellopeter. My husband also overheard another customer complaining about this at William Simpson Tokai (he had to have his skimmed at 15000km and was also saying it was very strange as he had never had to have that done with other cars).

I have emailed Nissan three times stating that I would like a reply by email. Carl Cupido rep**** from William Simpson saying 'lets wait for Nissan's reply'. No reply. I have had two missed calls and one message from their call centre. I have returned the call to their call centre three times and can't get hold of the person who left a message for me - so I have left two messages for him. No reply. Though I don't see what help the call centre can be and I specifically requested a reply in writing.

I have told Nissan that I am concerned that a) if this is already happening now while the car is still new and within its service plan - it is going to result in much more costly issues once the service plan finishes and the car is older; and b) I drive children to and from school daily and this does not leave me feeling confident about the safety of my vehicle.

For myself I do not want to own a Nissan again as a result of this experience of receiving no assistance with this issue thus far. I am very keen to go back to Toyota when I next purchase a car as I always enjoyed very reliable and friendly service at Market Toyota Tokai.

Reviewer Update
After about 10 phone calls with Byron from the call centre I am even more frustrated than when this started. All I have asked of Nissan is for confirmation that they actually understand my concern, and re-assurance that the fact that the car shudders after 15 - 20 000km and needs the breaks skimmed is not an issue with the X-Trail - in writing. They have refused to send this to me. I alone have come across 4 people with the exact same concern (all of whom needed breaks skimmed at 15 - 20 000km after never having to have this done with their other cars) so I find it hard to believe that Nissan is not aware of this. They have said that they cannot put that in writing and that I should contact the Motor Industry Ombudsman if I am still concerned - which I will now attempt to do. I am appalled that they could not just confirm in writing that they know of no issue with the Xtrail needing this done so early in the cars life...
