Broken CamBelt
On the 27/11/2024 I took my car to Bbauto Polokwane to change the Chembelt and my had no issues prior to that. So after changing the Chembelt I started hearing squalling sounds like a worn out fan belt or something. I remember getting a call from Nissan to rate the service that was performed on the vehicle and I said I am unable to rate the service because I’m hearing weird sounds that were not there before and as soon as I get time off from work I’ll return the car to be checked. Unfortunately On the 24/12/2024 on my way to Polokwane the car switched off at a stop sign in Mokopane without giving me any warning, I thought maybe the battery died so I tried to jump start and use different battery but nothing worked so since it was already late I decided to get it towed to a place I know it would be safe in Polokwane. The 25,26th was a holiday and Bbauto Polokwane was not working so on the 27th I called them and explained that they did a job on my and now it doesn’t start, they told me they will send a truck to tow it to the dealership to be checked. On the 30/12/2024 is the day it was towed to the dealership. On the 03/01/2025 I called the dealership to follow up on my vehicle and I was told my service advisor is on leave and I’ll get feedback on Monday when she comes back to work. On Tuesday 7/01/2025 I called again and the service advisor suggested I come to the dealership because my vehicle engines ceased and there’s a quote for me. Upon my arrival she showed me the quote of a new engine and I had questions as to how and why the engine ceased but referred me to the service foreman(Frikkie) Frikkie arrived and he told me the engine ceased and the car needs a new engine I asked him what caused it to cease? and he told me it was caused by the failed oiled pump because the cylinder had was dry when they opened it. And I asked him where is the oil pump that failed? And his response was there’s no need to check the oil pump because the fact that the cylinder head has no oil is reason enough that the oil pump is not pumping oil. I told him that what he is saying is not making sense to me because when the oil pump fails I should get an oil warming on the dashboard or other signs to show there’s a problem with oil. He(Frikkie) got very irritated by that statement and started telling me that he is the expert and if he’s saying it the oil pump then it is the oil pump and everything on the cylinder head even burned blue to show that it was not getting oil. I asked him can I see what he is talking about because I think any car would not have enough oil on top of it hasn’t been on for more than 7 days. So Frikkie took me to where my car was and showed me what he was about oil not being pumped and getting to the cylinder head but while showing me that I noticed there’s a belt torn on the side next to the fan belt and asked him what it was and he said it the torn Chembelt. I asked him why is’t torn and he said it’s because when the engine ceased it broke it as well. I ended up asking my service advisor for the manager because I wasn’t happy with Frikkie’s tone he was using to talk to me. So when I got to the managers office I found Frikkie there already as well and I explained my issues and the manager also cited Frikkies reason behind the reason the engine ceased. The manager asked me what’s the way forward and I told him I need time to think about it. So I decided to do my own research to validated their assumptions about the oil pump and here is what I picked up from other expert technicians: 1. Failed oil pump always gives an indication that it has a problem before the engine cease 2. Failed oil pump does not cause a Cambelt to break. 3. Cambelt breaks if the tension was not proper when it was being installed or the timing was not correct thus causing the valves to break as well.
So I think the person who replaced the Cambelt on my car didn’t do a proper job and it ended up breaking and causing the engine to cease and the dealership doesn’t want to take the responsibility of that error hence the Frikkie is putting the blame on the oil pump of which he did not see or test that it doesn’t work.
I contacted Nissan head office numeral times from the 7/01/2025 expressing the unsatisfactory service done on my car and they said they will investigate the matter and get back to me and till this day I have not received any call back from them with a feedback. Please tell if it’s Nissan policy to do improper job on our cars and blame it on things that you have no proof of?
