At "Whittsend" with NISSAN SA
I have a Nissan 2019 NP200 Dci which has been giving me problems since day one, I have complained to Nissan from the first service. The agents mostly tried to assist where they can, but never really solve any of the problems. Firstly there was like a pinging sound in the engine when one would increase speed in the first 3 gears, it was worse when there was a bit of an incline. The first response from Nissan Midrand was that it was due to the handbrake that needed to be set properly. Two days after I got the vehicle back from service it was back to the old noises. With the next service they "reset" the handbrake again but same old same old. I then took it back and the service manager drove the vehicle for 3 days after I was told that it was the diesel pump and all of the Dci's did this, which I accepted as a problem they all had. I then started servicing the vehicle at Melrose Nissan as it was close to my office. They gave me excellent service from the word go. The vehicle then overheated just after the 60 000Km service and was attended to by Nissan The Glen. They said it was the fillercap on the water bottle that was faulty and this was replaced. It then overheated again and was taken care of by Melrose Nissan which then replaced the cap again as well as the thermostat. Then again at around 76 000Km it overheated on my way back from Polokwane for the third time. BB Nissan in Polokwane attended to the problem and did some repairs to the vehicle which included a new water pump and "sceaming" of the top, "head"... I was told that the previuos guys did not look "deep" enough into the problem but they now have resolved the issue. Upon my next service, I asked what will happen if the vehicle overheats again and what kind of a warranty do I have on the craftsmanship of BB Polokwane. I was then told that I still have my warranty and should something happen, I shall be covered. You don't have anything to worry about sir, I was told. Nearing the end of my warranty, I asked the question again and was told that the vehicle lasted for just over a year, there should not be a problem of which I accepted in good faith. The vehicle was just out of warranty when it overheated again and this time I was told that the engine is gone and needs to be replaced. Now, NISSAN awarded a goodwill claim of 50% of the damage and wants me to fork out and additional R65-R75 000 rand as the remaining 50%. Firstly they indicated that there must be a problem with there NP200 Dci's by willingly offering me a 50% claim. I do NOT accept this and will not accept it. I feel that Nissan SA should do the honorable thing and supply me a brand new engine or at least settle my vehicle for the outstanding amount and they can then fix the vehicle and sell it again... I have heard from various people that this is a huge problem on the diesel engines and many a claim on these engines has been lodged and they replaced the engines. My biggest problem is that I use it for work and at this stage find it difficult to work as I need to borrow a vehicle all the time. This is putting a vast amount of strain on me as well. Any advice or people with similar problems on the NP200 Dci that has been helped by Nissan SA or is facing the same battle as I am, please let me know what you think. Nissan SA has taken their time with this matter and keeps on telling the Nissan agent to send emails to Goodwill@Nissan which then just refers the matter to the board who makes the decisions. I hope that this matter can be resolved soonest. A huge thanks to the guys at Melrose Nissan trying their utter best to help me in this matter, it is greatly appreciated. Awie Oberholzer
