2025 Nissan Magnite AMT – Engine Failure Hazard at 22 000km
We purchased a brand new 2025 Nissan Magnite AMT in May 2025 for my 59-year-old mother, who uses the vehicle for her daily commute of approximately 50km to and from work.
Her driving style is extremely conservative — she drives slowly, does not accelerate aggressively, does not overload the vehicle(no tow bar), and the car has never been abused in any way. The vehicle currently has only 22 000km on the clock, 9 months later.
Despite this, we have experienced serious issues: • Ongoing problems with gear selection • Erratic or hesitant engagement of gears • And most concerning — the vehicle displayed an “Engine Failure Hazard” warning • The car lost power and left my mother stranded on the side of the road
This is completely unacceptable for a vehicle that is less than a year old and has such low mileage.
A clutch or transmission-related failure at 22 000km cannot reasonably be attributed to “wear and tear,” especially considering the careful manner in which the car is driven. An AMT gearbox is still a mechanically controlled clutch system, and such premature failure strongly suggests a manufacturing defect, actuator problem, or transmission control issue, not driver misuse.
The experience has caused: • Major inconvenience • Safety concerns • Emotional distress for my mother after being stranded • Loss of confidence in the reliability of the vehicle
We trusted Nissan’s reputation when purchasing this car. Instead, we are now dealing with a vehicle that has shown serious drivetrain failure at extremely low mileage.
A new car should not fail like this. Reliability and safety are non-negotiable.
We are extremely disappointed and hope Nissan South Africa addresses this matter urgently and professionally.
I trust you are well.
We are writing to formally follow up on our case, which was issued to us seven days ago. To date, we have not received any written feedback or resolution regarding our dispute.
Our vehicle, a Nissan Magnite purchased in May 2025, has now been at Nissan Mthatha for over three weeks. During this time, my 59-year-old mother has been forced to rely on public transportation to travel approximately 50km daily to and from work. This arrangement is not only unsafe but has also caused her significant emotional distress and anxiety. The prolonged delay in resolving this matter is unacceptable and deeply concerning.
We would also like to reiterate our formal dispute of the technical report submitted by the technician. The report contains an assumption regarding my mother’s driving style as the alleged cause of the clutch damage. This claim is entirely unfounded and factually incorrect. My mother is a conservative and cautious driver, and there is no evidence to support the assertion made in the report. We find it highly inappropriate and unprofessional for conclusions to be drawn based purely on speculation rather than objective mechanical findings.
Given the seriousness of the situation and the hardship we are currently experiencing, we respectfully request:
A formal written response addressing our dispute of the technical findings.
A clear explanation of Nissan South Africa’s position on liability.
An urgent resolution timeline.
Consideration of interim mobility assistance, given the extended period without our vehicle.
We have acted in good faith throughout this process and expect the same from Nissan South Africa. The continued silence and lack of resolution only compounds the inconvenience and distress already caused.
We would appreciate a prompt response,
Kind regards
