Stop harassing my family - I am reporting you to the Information Regulator

Good day,

I refer to my account with Netstar.

When signing up, I was required to provide emergency contact details strictly for emergency purposes. Despite this, due to an outstanding amount on my account, Netstar has been calling and sending SMS messages to these third parties, who are not party to my agreement and have no contractual relationship with Netstar.

This conduct is unacceptable and constitutes a clear breach of the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), as the personal information of these individuals is being processed for a purpose for which it was neither intended nor consented to.

Please note that Netstar has my personal contact number, work contact details, and email address on record. There is therefore no justification for contacting unrelated third parties regarding my account.

Further note that:

I am on a month-to-month contract and do not intend continuing the subscription. If payment is not made, the appropriate process is cancellation of the service, not harassment of third parties. You are hereby instructed to immediately cease all calls, SMSs, or any form of contact with my listed emergency contacts. Failure to comply will leave me with no option but to escalate this matter to the Information Regulator of South Africa.

Please confirm in writing that this has been addressed with immediate effect.
