I tested my Altech Netstar tracking unit today, and this required driving around for a while. On my return the car had not been picked up, so another drive-around was instructed. After the third drive-around it was clear my vehicle was not being picked up.
I pay monthly for this ineffective service, so the question about liability in the event of theft comes up. It seems I am liable for testing the unit twice a year, and the implication seems to be that if I don't do this, then Altech is absolved of liability.

I've been instructed to head to a service centre to have the unit assessed, and this assessment is for my account as I am a monthly payer, not an account holder (?). So, I'm paying for something that doesn't work, and have to pay someone to repair what's not working. Interesting business model.

I was then put through to the Emergency Call Centre to a consultant to clarify my questions, but the line was so bad one wonders how effective a discussion in a real emergency could be.

I would appreciate if someone from this company can lucidly explain who carries the liability for my vehicle in the event of theft, and to what refund I'm entitled.
