Netstar Poor Service

I know this is probably just one of many negative reviews Netstar has received, but I feel it’s important to warn potential customers.

My wife recently bought a new vehicle, and her insurance company required us to install a tracking device. I requested a quote from Netstar (recommended by OUTsurance) and gave approval for the installation.

A week after the tracker was fitted, I received a call from Netstar offering their Value-Added Services (VAS). I initially declined, but after persistent pressure from the consultant, I agreed to try it for a month or two, with the option to cancel if I didn’t need it. He clearly stated the cost would be R89 per month. I never received any documentation on the service, by the way.

Two months later, I noticed I was being charged R178 per month. I immediately contacted the call centre to cancel the service. I was transferred to the VAS department, where I was told I had no VAS account with them. After about ten minutes, they discovered the account had been incorrectly set up under my wife’s name, even though I had agreed to the service and I was being billed for it. When I asked to cancel, I was told I couldn’t, because the account “wasn’t in my name,” despite the fact that the money was coming from my account.

To make matters worse, I later received a message from Netstar stating that my account was in arrears and demanding immediate payment. When I phoned to query this, since I had signed a debit order, the agent checked their system and confirmed that they had simply “forgotten” to load my debit order.

Needless to say, I will cancel my services with Netstar!
