Shocking price for terrible, old, dry, small flowers

My Husband suprised me yesterday with a bunch of roses! The suprise of getting flowers was lovely but the flowers themselves were shocking, terrible, dry, small and almost looked like they were about to die. I asked my husband if he got them on sale because they looked a bit "old"! when he told me the price he paid for them I almost passed out. Day light ******* - so disappointed in such a well known product and name!
