Missed a birthday - same day delivery not honoured as quoted and paid

I ordered same day delivery and it was confirmed that it would be delivered on the same day. This is important, because the day in question was someones (*#%^% birthday. They did not receive it on the same day. No correspondence on the matter from netflorist explaining the delay - I had to find this out from the friend who did not receive her flowers.
