Delivery items missing

My niece wanted to surprise my sister for mothers day with gifts. Only one gift was delivered and the other one was not delivered. No one communicated that the second item is out of stock, only when I ask that's when we find out.

I got a message that item was delivered, so when would I have been told that one item was out of stock?
