Dead orchid! Shrivelled up roots

Shocking!!!!! I was gifted an orchid for my birthday and within less than a week it was dead! The orchid wasn't in a proper pot that allows excess water to drain. Orchids WILL die if water can't drain from them! We tried repoting it into a pot that can drain and when we slowly removed it, ALL the roots were shrivelled UP and black! R500 later and the orchid is dead! All the leaves rotted after 2 days. I'm in disbelief that such a big company doesn't even pot the plant in the correct pot plant. Yes the pot plant I got was beautiful BUT not suitable for an orchid.
