Zero feedback for weeks, no visits allowed, totally in the dark
My Mom went into Netcare Union on the 16th of June with a broken femur. She had an op the following day - had a pin put in, and the Orthopaedic surgeon phoned me and gave feedback and was really pleasant and not in a hurry to get me off the phone. So far he is the only one that has contacted me. I have managed to contact my mom sometimes on her cell, and she has no clue what is happening to her. I contacted the orthopaedic surgeon again and he said that a cardiologist was looking at my mom now. The last I heard was that my mom now contracted Corona while in hospital and had been put into an isolation ward. I have tried calling the section / ward - just rings no one answers,. When I speak to mom she says she is getting injections in her stomach every day and she doesn't know what they are for. She is getting a whole lot of meds and doesn't know what they are for either. She is elderly and doesn't always understand the doctor (if he even is explaining anything at all!) She has often cried while on the phone to me because she does not understand why she is still in hospital, and I cannot get hold of a sister or even find out the name of the doctor who is tending to her! I have even contacted the managers office and she quickly tried to put me through to the ward, which of course just rings out. For private care at a huge cost this is un-acceptable, especially since we are not allowed to visit because of the COVID regulations. The staff should be a little more understanding that the family of elderly people really deserve feedback, especially when someone has contracted the virus.
