WORST SERVICE EVER!!!!! LEFT UNRESOLVED

I came to your emergency department on the 19 November 2018 unable to walk and in extreme pain after I had just gained consciousness. From the start things went wrong, the nurse assisting me asked me what happened due to my state I was unable to answer her entirely and my husband assisted by filling in the missing facts as he was the conscious person there after I lost consciousness. The nurse then responded by saying sorry I asked your wife she’s the patient she needs to answer me. I tried my very best to answer her but I did think that was unusually rude of her. I was requested to provide the nurse with a urine sample, they pushed me into the bathroom as I was in a wheel chair and handed me the container. They sent my husband to the front to complete paper work. Due to me being unable to move myself it was a real struggle and I had to drag myself out the wheel chair and onto the toilet in order to get a urine sample, once I had the sample I managed to get myself back into the wheel chair. I then waited for the nurse to come and fetch me as I was unable to get to the door while in the wheelchair hold the urine sample and open the door which is quite heavy. After approximately 8 to 10min no one came and I tried to get to the door as I pushed the door with the wheel the nurse came, opened the door and took the sample from me and closed the door leaving me inside struggling to get out…. My husband then arrived from the front desk and assisted me with the door so that I could get out of the bathroom.

We then stood in front of the bathroom waiting for someone to tell us where we needed to go, after about 5min a nurse came and took me to a cubicle where I had to wait for the Doctor. After about 10min a nurse returned to administer medication, I asked her what she is giving me is. She responded by saying ‘you said you have pain isn’t that what you coming for’ I then advised that the pain is gone already so she said well the Dr said I must give you something for the pain so you will have to ask him and she continued to administer the medication. Not once did they ask if I’m allergic to any medication: and as it may be I am allergic to penicillin which they would not know because no one asked me anything besides what happened. After another 10-15min the Dr came and wanted to know what happened I then explained to the Dr as far as I can remember, I explained to him that it started with extreme abdominal pain leading to me losing consciousness. I also advised him that I have a condition called Adenomyosis which I was diagnosed with a few short months before the ER visit. The Dr believe it or not asked me to spell that for him and asked me so what is that. I then explained the condition to him and what it all entails I said to the Dr it would be best if I could see a gynaecologist as they normally know more about this condition. The Dr then left and said he would have to look up this condition, but he said it to me as if I was making up some nonsense to be there. The porter then came to fetch me as Dr requested that I go for an X-ray, they did an X-ray but it showed nothing. Blood was drawn by Pathcare and that was it. I was then taken back to the room to wait for the results. The Dr then came in and said that he doesn’t know what’s wrong with me but I will receive a call from the hospital tomorrow to make an appointment for an ultrasound. I then requested that I be admitted as the Dr did not know what was wrong with me, being that it was 3am or 4am in the morning I felt uneasy going home not knowing what was wrong with me or what had happened. The Dr responded to me by saying that the hospital is full therefore he cannot keep me overnight. So I left, they called me 6am the next morning and requested that I be there at 7am for the ultrasound. While doing the ultrasound I asked the lady what the Dr is looking for she then advised me that he suspects that the pain could be caused by my appendix. This news shocked me because as far as I know if anything was wrong with my appendix and something happened after I left the hospital I could have died. So my question is the Dr stated that he could not admit me because the hospital was full so the new rule of CBH is to send patients home even when we are unsure of the cause of the incident and request them to return the next day?

After the ultrasound I went back down to the ER and had to see the Dr I was advised that he left already and that they will get me another Dr. The Dr came gave me the feedback that there was nothing wrong with my appendix I then asked the Dr so what is wrong or what happened, he said he is unable to say as he was just requested to give me the feedback of the ultrasound and discharge me. I then left the hospital and went home to rest on my return to work I sent a complaint through to your complaints department but received no joy. I then received the Invoices stating that I owed the hospital R1173.98 and from the Dr for approximately R470 I also received invoices from Pathcare and also Morton and partners. I am disgusted with the service I received at your hospital especially considering that the ER department was empty as I was the only patient there, your hospital always comes highly recommended but after the service I received I would never recommend the hospital to anyone I have been in many ER departments at different hospitals due to my sons bad health but never have I ever experienced such horrific service and then still be expected to pay a bill. Had you provided me with service taken care of me I would not have mind paying it but for the trauma I experience I am unwilling to make a payment. I am happy to come and see you if you require any further information. But would prefer never to return to the hospital as it just reminds me of the trauma I had to go through. I hope my complaint does not fall on deaf ears as does many and that a suitable compensation is negotiated to account for the happenings on the 19/11/2018.
